Military Brass Defies Trump
New reporting shows that Trump has instructed the joint special operations command (JSOC) to draw up invasion plans for Greenland. Fortunately, the top military officials in that command are upholding their oaths. It is not an oath taken to a man, but to the constitution, which clearly states that wars must be approved by congress. Not only that, but this action would have much wider implications regarding NATO, and the global norms that have kept our world relatively peaceful since 1945.

There are not only consequences for the action of one NATO ally invading the sovereign territory of another, but I'm afraid there will be consequences, yet unseen, for the now public knowledge of this plan. European nations are already on high-alert thanks to Trump's reckless rhetoric. They have enough on their plate with the intensifying war in Ukraine, and Russia's hybrid warfare tactics against other European allies, they don't need threats to their union from overseas.
Trump and his administration have made their position painfully clear: "The U.S. needs to own Greenland", but the logic behind their assertion does not stand to reason. This should not be a surprise as most of this administration's decrees and policies have not been rooted in logic, but rather the will of one obviously addled man who can't stay awake during press conferences, unless he's in the middle of struggling to pronounce three-syllable words.

You can read our other article "Don't Invade Your Allies, And Other Statements That Shouldn't Need To Be Said." for a deeper analysis on why the U.S. has everything it needs to defend the arctic passages around Greenland without destroying the strongest alliance of nations. Long story short, this rhetoric, and now this attempt at planning an invasion is simply not necessary, extremely destructive, and is clearly motivated by imperial ambitions of the wannabe emperor Trump. Lately we've even seen Trump-supporting, republican senators such as Thom Tillis (R North Carolina) speaking out against this potential world-destabilizing rhetoric. The ones who support this action in Greenland are either so short-sighted, corrupt, or have their noses so far up Trump's rump they cannot possibly see the multitude of reasons why this is unnecessary and stupid.
European nations have already put out a joint statement stating that the fate of Greenland is for Greenlanders and Denmark to decide, and no one else. We'll keep an eye out for more statements since this reporting has come out. Now that the EU knows Trump has ordered an invasion plan by the U.S. military, despite their willingness to do so, I'm sure European leaders will have something to say.
